Newark Police are currently investigating two separate shooting incidents in different wards of the city, both detected by ShotSpotter devices.The first incident occurred on the border of Newark's Central and South Wards, where gunfire was reported near the intersection of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Muhammad Ali Avenue around 7:35 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a bullet wound. A second vicitm was located in the area of 174 Livingston Street.
Emergency Medical Services quickly transported both victims to University Hospital for treatment.
The Newark Major Crime Unit has been called to assist with the ongoing investigation at the scene.
In a separate incident in the South Ward, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 7:50 a.m. near 25 Edwin Place. Although shell casings were discovered, no injuries were reported at this location.
Police are actively investigating the motives behind both shootings.
