According to Linden Police, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Officers responded to the intersection of Interstate 278 West and Morses Mill Road on reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.
Police said a 2020 Nissan Altima was traveling west on I-278 when it struck a 1999 Buick Lesabre crossing the intersection from the left turn lane exiting I-278 at Morses Mill Road.
The traffic signal at the intersection was damaged during the crash.
Linden Police said traffic was impacted for several hours, but all lanes have reopened.
The driver of the Buick, a 56-year-old man from Long Island, was seriously injured in the crash.
According to Linden Police, the driver of the Nissan, identified as Wesley Davis, 45, of Avenel, also sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Both drivers were transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Davis was later arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
