Police in Camden charged Nasir Mason, 19, and Morton Newman, 20, both of Camden, were in connection with a shooting that killed Diquese Young.
Camden County Police responded to the MD Anderson Cancer Center on October 14, 2018 at approximately 8:32 p.m. for a report of a man who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Diquese Young, 19, of Camden, suffering from a gunshot wound. Diquese Young was transported across the street to Cooper University Hospital by EMS.
Diquese Young succumbed to his injuries two days later and was pronounced deceased on October 16, 2018, at approximately 12:58 p.m.
During the investigation, detectives were able to determine that the shooting took place inside Morton Newman’s residence on the 2500 block of Baird Boulevard in Camden.
On October 15, 2018, Morton Newman and Nasir Mason were charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault (Pointing a Firearm), and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Nasir Mason was also charged with a Certain Persons offense.
Morton Newman and Nasir Mason were remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order they be detained or released with conditions.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
