Fire officials in Elizabeth are investigating a two-vehicle crash that ended with a tow truck slamming into a house, bringing down utility poles and causing a temporary power outage on a residential block. The incident occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West Grand Avenue. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a tow truck and a car involved in a collision.
The driver of the tow truck lost control, veering off the road and crashed into a nearby home.
Rescue teams worked to extricate the tow truck driver, who was transported to University Hospital for treatment. During the extrication process, a firefighter sustained an arm injury after reportedly being struck by falling debris.
He was also taken to University Hospital. Officials confirmed that neither of the injuries is considered life-threatening.
The crash brought down power lines, leaving homes in the area temporarily without electricity. PSEG crews responded promptly, restoring power to affected residents.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the series of events that led to the wreck.
