Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Johan Lake-Rodriguez, 28, and Jerry Lake-Rodriguez, 27, were arrested May 8, 2020, in relation to a shooting investigation that took place Thursday, in the area of Hamilton Avenue.
Police said Johan Lake-Rodriguez is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Aggravated Assault, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree. Jerry Lake-Rodriguez is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Aggravated Assault, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree.
According to police at approximately 4:34 p.m. members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of Hamilton Avenue on a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival the police located a 26-year-old male Paterson resident who had sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound according to authorities.
The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.
Based on the investigation, it was determined that Johan Lake-Rodriguez fired multiple gunshots at the victim from a moving vehicle driven by his brother, Jerry Lake-Rodriguez. Johan Lake-Rodriguez and Jerry Lake-Rodriguez were subsequently charged and arrest warrants issued.
Authorities said, Johan Lake-Rodriguez and Jerry Lake- Rodriguez were arrested on Friday at approximately 11:15 a.m. in the area of 10th Avenue.
The State has filed motions for pretrial detention for Johan Lake-Rodriguez and Jerry Lake- Rodriguez that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
