Two Arrested in Newark Raid; Assault Weapon Confiscated

Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that detectives seized a loaded assault firearm along with heroin and Ecstasy pills during a drug raid in Newark earlier today.

Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, had been investigating reports of narcotics distribution from a residence on Holiday Court.

Authorities said as a result of the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence.

Earlier today, task force detectives, with assistance from the Newark Police Emergency Response Team, executed the warrant and recovered a loaded assault firearm, approximately twenty glassine envelopes of suspected heroin and a small quantity of Ecstasy pills known Mollies.

During the raid, detectives arrested Kassan Sherman, age 24 and Jensen Cejour, age 23, both of Newark.

Sherman has been charged with unlawful possession of an assault firearm and possession of hollow-point bullets.

Cejour has been charged with possession of the heroin and ecstasy, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.

Sherman has been remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending and appearance in the Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court and Cejour has been released on his own recognizance pending court.

These are mere allegations lodged against the suspects. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
