Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Sherwin Green, 59, of Newark, and Ms. June Scales, 63, of Biloxi, Mississippi, for an incident of illegal dumping that occurred Tuesday night.
According to authorities, in response to citizen complaints, members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force responded to the 600-block of Hunterdon Street at approximately 5:39 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers observed a man and woman unloading refuse, including filled large black plastic bags and a milk crate, from a vehicle and into a dumpster police said.
Police said both Mr. Green and Ms. Scales were immediately arrested and charged with Illegal Dumping and Illegal Transport of Solid Waste.
The vehicle used to transport the refuse was towed and is subject to seizure by forfeiture.
These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
