Newark Firefighters battled a 2-Alarm fire that ripped through a house in the city's West Ward overnight.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, firefighters battled the fire that broke out at 141 Vermont Avenue just before midnight.
Director Ambrose said, one female victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS where doctors treated severe injuries.
The fire left about a dozen occupants displaced.
The American Red Cross arrived at the scene for temporary housing assistance while the Essex County Prosecutor's Office will handle the investigation.
