Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Montclair Animal Shelter; Foster Shelters Needed

A two-alarm fire tore through the rear of the Montclair Animal Shelter located at 77 N Willow St. early this afternoon.

The fire appeared to have started in the rear of the kennel area of the building.

According to shelter officials, all of the animals were rescued and placed in a building across the street.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from entering the main part of the two-story building where they took about an hour to place under control.

Shelter officials said about 70 foster shelters will be needed to care for the animals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
