The New Jersey State Police are investigating a crash on the southbound lanes of the Turnpike in South Brunswick that injured one man early this morning.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that at 3 a.m., Troy Claffee, 48, of Bronx, N.Y., was slowly driving a Honda Odyssey in the right lane at milepost 77.1. Elliot Remi, 32, of Queens, N.Y., was driving a tractor-trailer in the right lane when he struck the Honda from behind.
The tractor-trailer jackknifed in the roadway and became fully engulfed. Remi was able to exit the truck uninjured. The Honda was disabled on the right shoulder. Troy Claffee sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
The right and center lanes were closed for an extended period due to the investigation and cleanup. There are no charges at this time and there is no further information available.
All lanes have been reopened.
