A crash occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike on 4 Street and Elizabeth Avenue in Elizabeth around 8:30 pm last night when a truck crashed and struck the overpass divider.This accident caused debris to scatter onto the street below, prompting immediate action from local authorities.
Elizabeth Police swiftly responded to the scene, securing the area to prevent any further situations on their end.
Remarkably, no serious injuries were reported despite the severity of the crash. Additionally, there were no reports of pedestrians or drivers on Elizabeth Avenue being struck by the falling debris.
Following the incident, Elizabeth Police took to social media to inform residents of the potential repercussions on their morning commutes. The police statement advised:
“There is an accident that just occurred on the turnpike above Elizabeth Avenue. It is possible that Elizabeth Avenue will be closed at 4th Street in the morning. We are currently waiting assessment from the turnpike engineers, and will keep everyone posted.”
