Police in Mountainside are investigating the cause of a crash that shut down a highway in Union County Friday morning.
Mountainside Police officials said at approximately 6:14 a.m., police responded to the area of Route 22 and Central Avenue for a motor vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle transporting used cooking oil.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2007 International tanker truck resting upon the concrete divider of the highway with it's the diesel fuel tank ruptured.
Police said as a result of the accident Route 22 was closed eastbound while Union County HazMat and NJ State Department of Transportation crews worked to remediate the spill and clear the roadway.
No injuries were reported and the roadway was reopened approximately four hours after the crash.
