After causing extensive damage as a hurricane in the southeastern United States, Tropical Depression Debbie is making its way to North Jersey. It will bring with it a forecast of rain and strong winds that will intensify this evening.Bergen County, in particular, is on high alert for potential flooding associated with the storm.
As of early Friday morning, with temperatures at 76 degrees in Newark, the region has already begun to experience some light precipitation.
The most significant impact, however, is expected later in the day, starting after 2 p.m., when Debbie is predicted to unleash approximately 1-2 inches of rain, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 35-50 mph across parts of Sussex, Bergen, and Passaic counties.
The National Weather Service indicates a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 2 p.m. today, with cloudy conditions and a high near 78 degrees.
The turbulent weather is expected to continue into the night. Showers and possible thunderstorms will occur before 2 a.m., followed by a chance of more showers and storms afterward. The low will hover around 73 degrees.
Fortunately, the tropical depression system is forecasted to move out by Saturday morning, paving the way for a beautiful start to the weekend.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepare for the adverse weather conditions as Debbie passes through the area.
