Trenton Teen Indicted for Ciony Kirkman’s Murder

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported that a Mercer County grand jury recently returned a 16-count indictment charging a Trenton teen with the shooting death of Ciony Kirkman.

Peter Charles Jr., 18, of Bayard Street, was indicted on one count of first- degree murder, six counts of first-degree attempted murder, seven counts of fourth- degree aggravated assault, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He remains in jail in lieu of $750,000.

According to authorities, on April 24, 2016, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Kirkman was shot in the head at Jersey Street and Home Avenue while in a Ford Windstar minivan that had been reported stolen in Trenton several days earlier.

Six other juveniles were in the minivan at the time. Kirkman succumbed to her injuries two days later.

The charges are a result of an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force. Assistant Prosecutor Brett Berman presented the case to the grand jury.
