Trenton Police Department Announces Hiring Efforts to Strengthen Community Safety

Trenton officials announced that the Trenton Police Department (TPD) is actively seeking dedicated and talented individuals to join its ranks as law enforcement officers.

The TPD is committed to hiring the highest quality officers to build a highly skilled team united in their commitment to the safety and well-being of all persons in the City of Trenton, officials say. 

“The Trenton Police Department is rooted in the community, and our mission is to build a police force that reflects the community we serve, ensuring fairness, trust, and respect in all interactions,” stated Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson.

“We are actively recruiting passionate individuals who pose a strong sense of duty, a commitment to community service, and a desire to make a positive impact.”

According to Trenton officials, the Police Department is seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:

-Must be at least 18 years of age, maximum age of 35.

-Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.

-Must have a high school diploma, GED, or a State of New Jersey equivalent certificate.

-Strong employment history preferred.

-Ability to pass the physical fitness agility test and meet minimum agency standards set by the New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC).

-Ability to pass a strict background check that includes criminal and driver history.

Trenton Mayor W. Reed Gusciora provided the following statement: “This recruitment effort is a vital step in ensuring we have a strong, dedicated police force that reflects the representation and values of the community.”

"We are in search of individuals who are passionate about public service and dedicated to upholding the highest standard of law enforcement. We welcome all qualified applicants ready to serve and contribute to a safer, stronger Trenton.”

The Trenton Police Department offers various incentives to attract qualified candidates, including the option to bypass the New Jersey Civil Service Entry Level Law Enforcement Examination (LEE), Trenton authorities stated. 

Trenton officials said that officers will be eligible for paid sick leave, paid vacation days, access to specialty units, and uniform allowances.

Applications will be accepted exclusively through PoliceApp from April 1st to May 1st, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply within this timeframe. There is no application fee.
