A Trenton mother was sentenced to 180 days in jail last week after police found her children inside a Trenton home exposed to feces and in deplorable conditions.
Haydee Santana, 23, was charged with five counts of child endangerment, according to police.
The investigation began back in October after Santana's 5-year-old daughter told school officials about the abuse at home however family was not located until now that Santana gave birth to a set of twins.
The Beatty Street house - where the children were found - had no electricity or gas service. The children were malnourished and in need of medical care, authorities added.
According to officials, the children - who are in custody of DCF - have been taken from the mother multiple times but always managed to obtain assistance in order to regain custody.
Jonathan Rivas, her then boyfriend - was also arrested and charged with child endangering charges.
