A Trenton man who fired at law enforcement attempting to serve him a warrant and then barricaded himself in his residence for 35 hours in May was indicted on Wednesday, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.
A Mercer County grand jury returned an 18-count indictment charging Tyleeb Reese, age 35, with first-degree murder, seven counts of first-degree attempted murder, seven counts of second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree burglary and third-degree resisting arrest.
He remains in the Mercer County Correction Center.
According to officials, on May 10, 2017, at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers with the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to serve Reese with a warrant at his Centre Street residence when he started shooting at them. With three officers wounded, police regrouped outside. Reese appeared from the residence and shot at police again.
Trenton resident Robert Powell Jr., 56, was struck and killed. Reese then barricaded himself in his home for 35 hours. He surrendered to police the following afternoon.
Assistant Prosecutor John P. Boyle Jr. presented the case to the grand jury.
Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
