A Trenton man who attempted to stab a female friend to death in October was indicted on Friday, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.
A Mercer County grand jury returned an 15-count indictment charging John Bragg, 53, with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of second-degree aggravated assault, multiple terroristic threats and weapons offenses, and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
According to authorities, he remains in the Mercer County Correction Center.
In the early morning hours of October 1st, at a friend’s apartment in Kingsbury Square East, Bragg fought with a female friend after she spurned his advances. He told the victim, “Today is the day you die,” and stabbed her repeatedly all over her body. Bragg locked the victim’s three-year-old son and an adult male victim in the bathroom. The male friend escaped and managed to hit Bragg with a toilet tank cover, but was then stabbed several times as well. A neighbor called the police around 3:30 a.m. and Bragg was arrested at the scene.
The two adult victims were transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries. The child was not harmed.
Assistant Prosecutor Mary Sparkman presented the case to the grand jury.
Despite having been indicted, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
