Police responded to a residence on the 1300 block of Thelma Terrace shortly after 2:30 p.m. today for a report of an injured worker.
Preliminary investigations revealed, that as a private plumbing contractor - only described as a man in his 30's - was standing in a 8-foot trench, where a new sewer line was being installed, the ground gave way under the weight of a concrete surface striking the worker in the shoulder and leg.
The worker was removed from the hole and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with what police described as non life-threatening injuries.
City Officials and OSHA were notified and are on scene investigating.
