Residents occupying a house in Paterson were forced to evacuate after severe storms that passed through Northern New Jersey caused a tree to topple over onto their home in the city on Tuesday evening.
Emergency responders were called to 540 East 24th Street after receiving reports of a downed tree at around 5:30 p.m. where they arrived to find the rear of the house suffering massive damage after a large tree fell on it causing a gaping hole inside the substantial three-story multi-family residence.
Search and rescue crews searched the searched for trapped and injured occupants but did not locate any victims.
The American Red Cross assisted in relocating displaced residents.
