A devastating incident occurred near Sayreville High School in Middlesex County on Thursday night, leaving one person dead and another injured after their car became engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders were alerted to the situation shortly before 10:55 p.m. after heading to reports of a car fire at 820 Washington Road.
Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with a vehicle fully ablaze. Both occupants were trapped inside and had to be extricated by the emergency crews.
Tragically, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.
The surviving victim was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
