Tractor Trailer Crashes into Bridge in Harrison

Harrison Town

NJ Transit and Port Authority officials checked the structural integrity of a bridge that was struck by a truck in Harrison on Saturday evening.

According to authorities, police were called to Bergen Street -just past the I-280 westbound ramp- to investigate reports of a crash with injuries that occurred at around 7:45 p.m.

Police arrived to find that a tractor trailer cleared the I-280 highway overpass but slammed into the shorter NJ Transit-PATH bridge. The driver of the truck did not suffer any severe injuries, but the truck was wedged under the bridge with fluids beginning to leak from the vehicle according to officials.

The crash caused traffic to build significantly in the area while emergency responders assisted in removing the truck from under the bridge.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
