Toms River Police Arrest Two in Connection with Santander Bank Robbery

Toms River

Two suspects were apprehended within hours of robbery of the Satander bank on Route 37, according to police.

Christopher Camargo, 22, of Oakridge Parkway and Leonard Larson, 29, of Bayville were each charged with robbery.

Police responded to a hold up alarm from the Santander bank located at 721 Route 37 West at approximately 9:23 a.m. yesterday. The two men entered the bank and demanded cash. Camargo leaped over the teller counter and removed an undetermined amount of money from the drive through cashier drawer.

No weapon was shown during the robbery. Camargo and Larson fled on foot crossed down Route 37 northbound. They continued on foot into the Oak Ridge section of the township, which is a residential area. As a result of the proximity of the suspects direction of travel and them fleeing on foot, the West Dover Elementary School was placed on “Shelter in Place” status.

The two men were apprehended within hours of the robbery at the home of Camargo, which is a short distance from the bank, police said today.

A court authorized search warrant was executed at the residence of Camargo which recovered evidence of the crime.

Both men are being held in the Ocean County Jail on $150,000 bail.

Detectives Mark Bajada and Roger Hull were assisted by Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office CSI and K-9 units.
