Authorities in Ocean County announced that on September 27, Stacy Jordan, 60, of Toms River, was charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person in connection with an incident that occurred in Toms River on September 21.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer stated that on September 21, at approximately 9:38 p.m., officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Mobile Lane for a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a motor vehicle.
According to officials, an investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that a motor vehicle was traveling northbound on Massachusetts Avenue when it struck Lance Carter, 25, of Toms River, and fled the area.
Mr. Carter was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he is listed in critical condition, officials said.
Officials say that through continuing investigation, law enforcement determined that Jordan was the individual who had operated the subject vehicle at the time of the crash.
Authorities say on September 27, Jordan was taken into custody without incident in Toms River by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department.
He will be transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he will remain lodged pending a detention hearing, officials said.
