Last year, during our Q3 legacy meeting, we were clear that it was time to pivot from the annual plan we so nicely put in place.
Clearly, God had another plan.
Thankfully we were on the same page, but what happened next we didn't see coming.
We assumed we would continue as we were previously, but it wasn't easy.
We learned that pivots are like second beginnings.
It was as if we were starting from scratch, but not really (because we had momentum in a different direction).
So our focus was not transferring that momentum with us. But it still felt like a lot because it was.
We realized that this pivot required us to revisit our former expectations and implement new ones.
For example, we needed to talk about:
- How this pivot would impact our marriage: An intense time in business always carries over to marriage.
- What kind of marital adjustments would we make to get over this hump? We needed to be in agreement with this on the front end, or we knew it wouldn't go well.
- What kind of financial sacrifices would we need to make? When in transition, you're most vulnerable, so we had to be extra intentional with overseeing our finances and being strategic and resourceful
- Be clear about the mile markers for change. At what date will you add a team member? Or at what profit point will you switch your schedule to have more family time? Clarity is key.
The point is to get ahead of the pivot as much as possible. Do it together so you're clear about the expectations, date nights, mile markers, etc.
