Police in Newark took several carjacking suspects into custody after a pursuit ended in a bailout in the city's Central Ward Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the suspects were wanted for a violent early morning armed carjacking of a livery car in the area of South Orange Avenue and South 19th Street Thursday morning.
Police say just before 11:55 a.m., they spotted the carjacked Chevy Suburban in the city's South Ward, where they attempted to pull the driver over.
The vehicle sped away and led officers on a pursuit through the South Ward but ended in the vicinity of Muhammad Ali and 18th avenues where they bailed from the car.
All three suspects were apprehended following a brief foot pursuit, according to police.
A weapon was recovered near the intersection of Wainwright Street and Nye Avenue that officials believe the suspects tossed from the vehicle during the pursuit.
There were no physical injures reported.
