Three-Story Building Fire Leaves One Dead in Jersey City

Authorities in Hudson County, the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred on Wednesday, October 16.AdHudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez stated that shortly after 10 a.m., the Jersey City Fire Department received a report of a fire at 121 Garfield Avenue in Jersey City.

Upon arrival, officials stated, emergency responders found fire coming from a third-floor bedroom of a three-story residential building.

During suppression activities, firefighters located an injured male, later identified as Pablo Renta, 56, of Jersey City, according to Hudson County officials. 

County authorities said he was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

This matter is under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department, said Prosecutor Suarez.AfFoul play is not suspected at this time, officials say.
