A violent overnight in the city has authorities investigating several shootings that left at least one person dead in Newark.
In the first shooting incident, University Hospital officials contacted police when a male victim walked into the hospital at around 11:30 p.m. suffering a non-life threatening leg injury from apparent gunfire.
The man reportedly told officials at the hospital that he was injured in the 40's block of 16th Avenue shortly before arriving to the hospital.
Police checked the area for a crime scene and gathered evidence.
Shortly after midnight in the area of South 10th Street at Brenner Street, multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the area sending swarms of police to the scene where they found an unconscious and unresponsive victim at that location.
Medical staff on the scene pronounced the victim dead a short time later.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 18th Avenue and Bergen Street at around 12:45 a.m. where officers arrived to find one person shot to the ankle at that location.
The victim was taken to University Hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
All of the shooting are under investigation.
In an unrelated incident, police placed two people in custody overnight after cops located the pair in possession of several weapons.
The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. in the area of 12th Street and Avon Avenue.
