The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that left three people injured in two sections of Paterson.
According to a preliminary investigation, in the first incident, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a gunman fired about 20 rounds at individuals standing in the 30's block of Butler Street.
Fast responding Paterson Police officers arrived and shut down the block from May to Butler after they found scores of shell casings on the ground. A search fo the area indicated no victims.
A short time later, officials at St. Joseph's Hospital alerted police that two victims entered the hospital suffering gunshot wounds. Police say their injuries have not been reported as life-threatening.
In the other incident, police say gunfire rang out near the vicinity of Rosa Parks Boulevard and 16th Avenue just before 11 p.m.
Police say units checked the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred, but no victims were found.
Officials at St. Joseph's Hospital told police that a person entered the emergency department suffering gunshot wounds. The victim told officials that the shooting occurred at the Rosa Parks crime scene.
Both shootings are under and active and ongoing investigation.
