Three Indicted for Newark East Ward Murder

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that an Essex County grand jury has returned an indictment charging three men with the murder of William Porter, IV, of Newark.

Assistant Prosecutor Adam B. Wells, who is handling the case, said the indictment charges Rashan “Numm Nuttz” Jackson, 30, of Irvington, Naim “Stacks” Jones, 41, of Newark and Hakeem “Hak” Maloney, 37, of Irvington with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.

Jones and Maloney were also indicted for promoting organized street crime by conspiring with others as an organizer, supervisor, financier or manager to commit specific enumerated crimes including murder.

On April 21, Porter, 23, of Newark was fatally shot in the parking lot across the street from a night club on Mulberry and Oliver Streets around 2:30 a.m.

Porter was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:46 a.m.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in the indictment on August 21 before the Honorable Ronald Wigler, the Essex County Superior Court Presiding Criminal Division Judge.

These are accusations.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
