Three-Alarm Fire Tears Through House in Irvington Township

Fire officials in Irvington are investigating a multi-alarm fire that destroyed a house in the township on Monday evening.

According to preliminary reports, the three-alarm fire ignited inside 607 South 20th Street sending firefighters to the scene where they arrived to find heavy fire ripping through the 1st floor of the structure.

Officials say the occupied two and a half story wood framed house engulfed in flame with extensions on both sides to neighboring homes.

Irvington Township fire officials on the scene requested mutual assistance from Newark when the fire reached its second alarm according to reports.

Massive flames began to push its way up to the second floor, then through the roof, where intense fire engulfed the attic causing the interior to began to collapse according to officials.

Firefighters were able to make their way into the house where they searched for trapped and injured occupants. There were no serious injuries reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
