Three of 13 men arrested in a gang sweep were ordered to be held without bail pending trial.
According to Attorney General's office, two weeks ago the men - members of the "Red Breed Gorillas" who drug-dealing operation on Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark - were arrested as part of a state-led gang sweep.
According to authorities, charges range from drug distribution, drug possession, gang criminality and weapons offenses.
The pre-trial motions granted by Judge Martin G. Cronin identify the three men as:
* Kevin Clayton, 25
* Bryant Hawkins, 39
* Lyonel Finklea, 30
Clayton and Finklea are identified as "five-star generals" in the gang.
Finklea who has a lengthy criminal history is also facing federal weapons charges in connection with a July 2016 incident where he was reportedly caught with a pistol version of an AK-47.
However similar detention motions were denied for the following defendants:
* Tyree Oxford, 23
* Abdul Bryant, 20
* Yasim Smith, 19
* Aljuquan Thomason, 24
* Alfatah Loyal, 31
* Yasin Hamilton, 25
The Bail Reform and Speed Trial Act, allows a judge to order a defendant be held without bail pending trial if prosecutors can demonstrate they pose a threat to the public or are unlikely to appear for their next court date.
