Members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team (F.A.T.) have arrested Mr. Tarod Andrews, 30, of Newark, who was a third suspect wanted in a double-shooting that occurred on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
Police say Andrews was arrested yesterday without incident when detectives observed him in the area of 4th and Dickerson streets.
He was wanted on charges of two counts each of Criminal Attempt of Murder, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. and also faces charges of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Receiving Stolen Property in this incident police said.
According to preliminary police, at approximately 2:38 p.m. on July 1st, 2017, police responded to University Hospital on a call of two males arriving with gunshot wounds.
Each victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
Police say both men were shot in the 700-block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Major Crimes detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify Kahleel D. Trent, 35, of Irvington, and David B. Canadas, 37, of East Orange, as suspects in this incident. F.A.T. detectives arrested both men on July 17th, 2017 without incident.
Trent and Canadas each face charges of two counts of Criminal Attempt of Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy to Commit Murder, as well as Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Canadas is also charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
Andrews remained at large until yesterday’s arrest police said.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
