Third Heatwave of the Season Scorches Newark, North Jersey Region

Newark and North Jersey residents face another intense heatwave, the third of the season, as temperatures continue to climb. The area is under heat and air quality alerts.Back2SchoolAs of 4:30 a.m., the thermometer already reads a sweltering 78 degrees in Newark.

The National Weather Service has issued warnings as real feel temperatures are expected to soar to about 100 degrees today.

Despite a slight chance of showers before 8 a.m., the day will predominantly be mostly sunny with a high near 96 degrees. Heat index values could reach as high as 99, making it crucial for residents to take precautions.

Later in the day, NWS forecasters say there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with a 30 percent chance of precipitation continuing into the evening, mainly before 11 p.m.

Tonight's low is expected to be around 77 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, seek shade, and use air conditioning to combat the oppressive heat. Remember to check on vulnerable neighbors and pets during this extreme weather.
