Police arrested a woman who left her child in a vehicle while she ran to an ATM prompting thieves to steal her vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.
According to authorities Marshay Smith, 28, parked her vehicle, a Kia Forte across the street from a credit union located on East Lafayette Street in Trenton at around 2 p.m. with the car running and her 5-year-old child inside while she made her way to the ATM.
Police said when she returned minutes later, the car, along with her 5-year-old daughter in the back seat, was gone.
Smith called 9-1-1. prompting a large police response in the area to search for the car and the child.
Several minutes later, Police recovered the car less than a half mile away in a parking lot on the 200 block of East Front Street with the child inside police said.
Police arrested Smith and charged her with endangering the welfare of a child according to reports.
She was released with a court date.
Police are looking for the car thief, who was described only as a tall black man.
