Authorities in Newark request the public’s help with identifying the suspects who conspired to distract a store employee and take $500 from the cash register at a discount store on September 13, 2023.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé reported that police responded to the theft, which occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. at Wilson Dollar Deals, a dollar store located in the 100 block of Wilson Avenue.
Authorities say on surveillance video that suspect #1 distracted the employee while suspect #2 walked behind the counter and took the money.
Both men left the store and fled westbound on Wilson Avenue towards Napoleon Street, officials said.
According to Newark officials, Suspect #1, described as a Black male, was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt, black pants, and a sky-blue bucket hat.
Officials said suspect #2, described as a Black or Latino male, was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, purple basketball shorts, and black Nike Sandals.
