In the midst of the Thanksgiving hustle and bustle, heavy overnight and morning rain has led to significant flooding on some New Jersey roadways, impacting travel plans for many in Newark and the North Jersey region.
As a result of heavy precipitation, authorities were forced to close the southbound lanes of Route 21 at State Street.
Additionally, Route 3 westbound had to be completely shut down between Bloomfield Avenue and The Garden State Parkway due to extensive flooding.
Despite the challenging road conditions, temperatures this morning offer some respite, hovering at a mild 54 degrees at 4 a.m. – nearly 20 degrees warmer than the previous day.
According to the National Weather Service, rain is likely to persist until around 7 a.m., after which mostly cloudy conditions will prevail.
However, the relief will be short-lived as the wind picks up, making temperatures feel considerably cooler for Thanksgiving Day.
Travelers are urged to exercise caution, stay informed about road closures, and plan accordingly as they embark on their Thanksgiving journeys.
