Teen Struck by Car While Exiting School Bus in Camden County

Camden County

Camden County authorities are investigating a pedestrian strike that injured a child in Gloucester Township on Friday evening.

According to a statement released by police, at approximately 7:25 pm, Gloucester Township Police responded to the area of Kearsley Road at Cedar Grove Drive, in the Sicklerville section of the Township, for a report of a teenager struck by a vehicle.

Authoritities said arriving officers located a 14-year-old female down in the roadway suffering a leg injury. The unidentified girl was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment.

Police say a preliminary investigation determined that the teen exited the Camden County Technical School bus and was struck by a Kia Forte as she began to cross. The driver remained on the scene after the crash.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police say drivers are reminded that New Jersey motor vehicle statutes require that when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, traffic in both directions must stop no less than 25 feet from the bus. You must remain fully stopped until the red lights are turned off.
