Teen Boy Struck by Gunfire in Newark's South Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that injured a child in Newark's South Ward Tuesday night. 

According to police, at approximately 10:10 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 110 Fabyan Place, sending police to the scene to investigate. 

Units arrived and found a teenage boy suffering a bullet wound to his hip at that location. 

Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. 

According to police, a gunman arrived in the area then fired over a dozen rounds at unknown targets.
 

Over a half dozen cars on the block suffered damage after being struck by bullets. 

Police say the suspect fled the scene and is at large. 

There were no other injuries reported.
