The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is reporting the arrest of Mr. Wiziar Johnson, 18, from Paterson, for a shooting investigation that took place on November 15.
Police said the shooting took place in the area of Franklin Street and Mercer Street in Paterson.
At approximately 12:08 p.m. on November 15, 2022, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Straight Street and Lafayette Street in Paterson on a report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, police said they located a 45-year-old male Totowa resident suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. The victim was immediately treated on scene but declined further medical treatment.
The investigation revealed that the victim was seated in a motor vehicle in the area of Franklin Street and Mercer Street in Paterson when he was shot.
Police charged Johnson with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Attempted Robbery, Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree.
Throughout the investigation, Paterson Police identified Wiziar Johnson as the shooter and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On November 28, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department arrested Wiziar Johnson in the area of Mercer Street and Franklin Street in Paterson.
The State intends to file a motion for the pretrial detention of Wiziar Johnson, which a Superior Court Judge will hear.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
