School officials placed a high school on lockdown after a student was found with a loaded weapon inside the building Friday.
According to a statement released by Newark Police officials, at approximately 9:30 a.m. today, officers responded to KIPP Newark Collegiate Academy Charter School, located at 129 Littleton Avenue, on a call of a student with a gun.
Upon arrival, police say they found the juvenile detained and the weapon was immediately turned over to police by school security.
Newark Police said the charter school was not evacuated as a result of this incident.
There were no injuries reported and authorities are looking into the motive behind the teen brought the gun to school.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
