A white powder inside a bathroom at the Union County College Campus in Elizabeth has been deemed safe but police are now investigating the incident as a possible biased crime.
Authorities found the white substance shortly before noon in one the school's bathrooms. According to police,the powder was determined to be calcium bicarbonate (baking soda).
Elizabeth police closed off the area and began investigating the incident as a possible bias crime after racial slurs were said to have been spelled out in the white powder.
Authorities said that there were no additional details available at this time.
