Authorities in Jersey City are investigating a hazmat incident that sent a mail handler to the hospital suffering burns after he came in contact with the chemical.
According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the U.S. Post Office building located at 80 County Road after receiving reports of a suspicious package and at least one person exposed shortly before midnight.

Upon firefighters arrival, they found a male suffering minor burns to the hands and arms after he came in contact with a white powder officials said.
Jersey City hazmat crews searched through all of the postal containers looking for the package in an attempt to determined what the substance was.
There were no other injuries reported.
