Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying two individuals wanted in connection with a violent armed robbery that took place inside a local barbershop on Sunday, March 17.
The incident occurred around 5:16 p.m. at a business located in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.
According to authorities, two suspects entered the barbershop, and one of them brandished a firearm.
The presence of the weapon caused several patrons to flee to the back of the establishment—except for one man who remained seated in the barber chair.
The armed suspect reportedly struck the victim with the weapon before forcibly taking his crossbody bag, which contained approximately $700 in cash.
Both suspects quickly fled the scene and were last seen on surveillance footage heading southbound on Frelinghuysen Avenue.
Investigators have released images of the suspects and are seeking help from the public to identify them.
The first suspect, who was armed, is described as a Black male wearing a green camouflage jacket.
The second suspect, also a Black male, was dressed in a black jacket, black pants, and black shoes.
Anyone with information that may assist in identifying or locating the suspects is urged to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
