A late night armed carjacking that happened in the city's South Ward now has police in Newark investigating an armed robbery that was reportedly committed by suspects occupying that vehicle.
The carjacking was reported shortly before 3 a.m. in the area of Aldine Street and Weequahic Avenue where police were called to the scene on reports of a carjacking in progress.
Units arrived to the scene where they located the victim who told them that two black male suspects (who were armed with a gun) approached and demanded a silver/grey 2015 Nissan Versa.
The suspects fled the scene shortly before police arrived to the scene.
At around 9:15 a.m. in the 300 block of 7th Avenue, police were called to the scene on reports of an armed robbery at gunpoint.
Officers arrived to the scene and were approached by the victim who told them that a black male suspect exited a grey Nissan (with tinted windows) armed with a gun and demanded personal possessions.
Several items were handed over to the suspect before he sped away from the scene towards East Orange according to reports.
There were no immediate reports of physical injuries.
