Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., stated that at approximately 5:09 p.m., at Bruen Street and Hamilton Street, a male exited a silver Ford Taurus with a taxi logo on the driver’s side front door.

From there, the male walked to a business located at McWhorter Street near Lafayette Street, Newark Police said.

Newark officials say the male used a key to enter the establishment.

He went to an office, opened a black mailbox that contained envelopes for the employees, took the envelopes, and left the establishment heading southbound on McWhorter Street, according to Newark officials.

Newark authorities stated that he was picked up by the same taxi, which fled eastbound on Lafayette Street.

The cash in the envelopes totaled $10,800.00, Newark officials say.

He also had a black glove on his right hand and wore a black face mask that covered the lower half of his face, Newark officials stated.
