Law enforcement officials reported an active search for a suspect wanted for an aggravated assault incident that injured a police officer in Newark on Tuesday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, it happened around 11:30 p.m. on 7th Avenue and Ruggerio Plaza.
Police say the driver of a Jeep jumped the curb and sped towards the officer and attempted to strike the cop who was out of the car at that location.
According to the investigation, the officer was transported to University Hospital suffering a non-life-threatening arm injury, underwent a complete evaluation and is expected to recover.
Newark Police alerted neighboring towns to be on the lookout for a newer model black Jeep Cherokee with a missing bumper that sped away from the scene and was last seen heading southbound on Clifton Avenue.
The suspect remains at-large.
