Authorities in Newark are searching for a man wanted in connection with a robbery and assault that took place at a local hair salon early Saturday morning, according to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. on March 15, at a salon located on the 200 block of 16th Avenue.
According to investigators, the suspect entered the business under the pretense of asking about hair-braiding services.
Moments later, he grabbed a worker's purse from her workstation and attempted to flee.
The victim chased after the suspect and tried to recover her belongings, but was violently assaulted.
Police say the suspect punched her repeatedly in the face before fleeing the scene on foot.
The stolen purse contained approximately $1,000 in cash, along with the victim’s identification and other personal items.
Detectives describe the suspect as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a black beanie, green puffer coat, blue jeans, and tan boots.
