Suspect Sought for Robbing Uber Driver in Newark's East Ward

Police in Newark are seeking the public's help in identifying a male suspect wanted in a robbery that occurred on Monday, January 20.

Officials say shortly after 2 p.m., an Uber driver picked up a customer at 31 South Street.

The male entered the front passenger seat of the vehicle and announced a robbery according to police.

He struck the driver with a closed fist, stole her cell phone, and fled from the vehicle running west on South Street.

Police say victim arrived at St. Michael's Hospital for treatment of her injuries and was released.

Detectives investigating this incident have obtained surveillance footage of the suspect.

They are seeking the public's help in quickly identifying him as part of this investigation.
