Orange Police chased a vehicle occupied by a suspect who was wanted for a possible carjacking in Newark this evening.
According to preliminary reports, police attempted to pull over a white Jeep Cherokee near South Center Street when the driver reportedly rammed into the police vehicle sometime before 7 p.m.
Police continued to follow the vehicle into South Orange where the suspect reportedly bailed from the vehicle with an object in his hand that appeared to be a gun reports said.
There were reports of shots fired, but according to sources, the suspect may have shot himself accidentally.
Police took the man into custody suffering non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle that the suspect occupied is a confirmed stolen vehicle.
There were no reports of injured police officers.
The incident is under investigation.
UPDATE 8:37p.m. This is a 19-year-old man with a self-inflicted gunshot injury to the leg. South Orange on the arrest.
